ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Set in 1984, the last year of real-life New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street, Fame: The Musical is bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candour, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today: issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance. More info and a full synopsis can be found by visiting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fame_(musical)

Our production will turn The Bridewell Theatre into the High School for Performing Arts as audiences will learn to live forever, along with the students and teachers of the celebrated school. As actors, dancers and musicians come together, Centre Stage’s production will feature triple threat performers and the production team are particularly interested in actors who also play instruments and musicians who are comfortable on stage, as we will be looking to cast on-stage musicians as part of the ensemble.

Fame: The Musical features 14 principal characters and a large ensemble. The ensemble is an incredibly important part of the show forming the student body. There is a lot of dance and time onstage, including many opportunities for solo dialogue and singing lines.  Each ensemble member will be asked to create their own character name and backstory to really bring their character to life!
