Opening on the West End in 1978, EVITA went on to become the second worldwide hit for Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber. It is the life story of Eva Peron, from humble beginnings to the most powerful woman in Argentina from 1946 to her death in 1952. EVITA is a through-sung musical, which tells Eva’s story through a succession of historical events interspersed with personal moments narrated by Che or Evita herself. However, this is no simple Cinderella story, it is much more gritty, much more political and is about a fight to the top by Eva and her husband Colonel Peron. It is about a social revolution, hopes, dreams and power. It is about image and persona. But it is also an image of desperation, blind ambition, false idols and pain.
Evita is a huge show with iconic roles and one where the ensemble is on stage most of the time. There are some amazing choral numbers and great dance moments for everyone. This will be the first show in our 50th year and we are looking for it to be a spectacular opportunity for all.
